Following the success of 2022’s “Prey,” filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg and 20th Century Studios are teaming up for a return to the “Predator” universe according to THR.
Titled “Badlands,” the new film is NOT a sequel to “Prey” which was set in 1719 and followed a young Comanche woman. This one is said to be set sometime in the future, and will feature a female lead. Further story details are under wraps.
Like “Prey,” Trachtenberg wrote the story with Patrick Aison with the latter writing the script. Things have progressed enough that filming aims to begin this July with casting now under way.
The release plans for the title are unknown, but a theatrical release is now more likely as films that were earmarked for streaming, like “Alien: Romulus,” are now going to cinemas.
That’s not all though. 20th Century Studios is so happy with the success of “Prey” that they are now planning a number of “Predator” projects with Trachtenberg set at the center of them.
In fact, Deadline says a direct sequel to “Prey” is still in the works that would return to the films original setting and with that film’s star, Amber Midthunder, potentially returning. That project is said to be in very early development with no talent attached at this time.
“Prey” set viewing records for Hulu and landed multiple Emmy nominations including one for Trachtenberg.
