In an unexpected turn of events, a new report at XboxEra indicates that last year’s biggest Xbox exclusive game – Bethesda’s “Starfield” – could be coming to the PlayStation 5 console this year.
The report indicates that the release will take place following the ‘Shattered Space’ expansion dropping on Xbox later this year, presumably in the form of a ‘Complete Edition’ of the game for the PS5.
The report also re-affirms other reports from last month that both “Hi-Fi Rush” and “Sea of Thieves” will also be coming to rival platforms soon with the former releasing as early as the first quarter of this year.
They say Microsoft has made additional investments into PlayStation 5 dev kits to support this change in strategy and a public statement from Microsoft on the news is expected this month.
WindowsCentral’s Jez Corden also weighed in today on X, stating he expects “Starfield” to be coming to PlayStation.
Microsoft has made it clear its future strategy is more concerned with providing games and services on as many platforms as it can as opposed to locking things down to exclusive hardware and if the report is accurate, it suggests they are pursuing this strategy full throttle.
It also raises an interesting question as to the future of Bethesda game titles and their availability.
