Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed the first poster for the sequel to Tim Burton’s iconic 1988 supernatural comedy “Beetlejuice” and in the process has confirmed its title – “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice”.
Burton and Michael Keaton will return as director and star respectively, whilst “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega plays the daughter of Lydia Deetz with Winona Ryder returning to the Lydia role.
Catherine O’Hara is back as Delia, whilst Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti and Burn Gorman co-star.
The original film grossed $80 million from a $15 million budget and is often considered one of Burton’s most iconic films. It followed a deceased married couple who called upon the services of the obnoxious and mischievous poltergeist to scare away the new residents of their former home.
The new project has been in development for over three decades, with Burton initially planning to set the sequel in Hawaii before scrapping that idea. Story specifics are under wraps.
The film marks a return of Burton to feature directing four years after helming Disney’s live-action “Dumbo” adaptation. Presumably with this poster release, a first look trailer is possibly arriving shortly.
“Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” is set to arrive in cinemas on September 6th.
