The casting has been completed. There is a new Supergirl / Kara Zor-El.
Milly Alcock, best known for her role as the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon, has won the role. Alcock was shortlisted alongside Emilia Jones (CODA), Meg Donnelly (The Winchesters), and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla).
Final screen tests between herself and Donnelly were held last week with Peter Safran, James Gunn and several other Execs present.
A live-action adaption of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is in the pipeline, but first she will appear in Superman Legacy, which is shooting soon in London and Georgia. The standalone movie is rumored to be based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series.
Alcock was born in 2000 and grew up in Sydney, New South Wales. She has two brothers. Alcock was introduced to acting upon playing Little Red Riding Hood in Taverners Hill Infants School’s version of Little Red Rocking Hood. She attended the local Stanmore Public School and then Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. She dropped out of school in 2018 when she was cast in Upright.
Alcock received an AACTA nomination for her performance in the Foxtel comedy-drama. Then she went on to break out internationally as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon (2022). For the role, Alcock was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She was named a 2018 rising star by the Casting Guild of Australia).
Prior to being cast in House of the Dragon, Alcock lived with her family in Sydney and took on side jobs to make ends meet. She then moved to London for the Game Of Thrones role, settling in the Primrose Hill area of London.
There will be concerns over a Supergirl movie in general in the boardroom at Warner Bros. after the high-profile failure of The Marvels and the abysmal tracking numbers for Madame Web.
