Amazon MGM Studios has just grabbed “Mercy,” a big Chris Pratt-led sci-fi film package with plans for a global theatrical release.
Filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”) will direct and veteran producer Charles Roven will produce the project which aims to begin production this Spring.
Marco van Belle pens the film which is set in the near future when capital crime has increased. Pratt plays a detective accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence.
Pratt and Amazon seem to like working together after the Pratt-led sci-fi film “The Tomorrow War” was acquired from Paramount and Skydance by the streamer.
Pratt then went on to star in Amazon Prime Video’s “The Terminal List” series with plans to return to his role in that for both a prequel and a sequel. A young Pratt also worked with Bekmambetov on “Wanted”.
Roven’s Atlas Entertainment label will produce the feature which is said to be the first in a number of titles Amazon MGM Studios is set to greenlight for theatrical distribution.
