The other week came confirmation that a remake of iconic 1986 fantasy film “Highlander,” about feuding immortals who battle across the centuries, would be the next project of “John Wick” director Chad Stahelski.
The news of the film’s go ahead came in a press release for a pact between Stahelski and Lionsgate that will give him creative oversight over the “John Wick” and “Highlander” franchises.
Notably absent from the press release was mention of the new film’s leading star Henry Cavill. Cavill has long been unofficially attached to play the new Connor MacLeod in this new take on the property.
So is he still onboard? Out promoting Matthew Vaughn’s “Argylle” this week, he confirms to Collider that he’s still very much a part of it and he’s about to begin an extensive training regime for it:
“The training is about to begin in earnest. It’ll be a very long training process, and I’m very excited to get into it. There’s only so much I can tell you at the moment. I want to keep everything under wraps for as long as possible.”
No word as yet regarding when shooting will begin beyond sometime this year. Cavill has also been attached to an Amazon adaptation of the beloved role-playing game franchise “Warhammer 40,000”.
He confirms that’s still going ahead: “Warhammer is progressing very well. Big things are happening and we are very excited.”
“Argylle” will hit cinemas next Friday.
