Ahead of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards tomorrow night, Sunday night saw this year’s Critics Choice Awards handed out with “Oppenheimer” once again sweeping major categories with eight wins in all including best pictures, director, ensemble cast, editing, score, cinematography, vfx and supporting actor (Downey Jr.).
Other familiar names fared well too with “Barbie” taking six honors, whilst “The Holdovers” landed three. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and “Anatomy of a Fall” took best animated and foreign film honors.
On the TV front, it was once again a three-way split with “Succession” dominating drama categories, “The Bear” taking comedy categories and “Beef” ruling limited series categories.
Unlike some other awards, nominations here are larger fields with six nominees for individual honors, eight nominees for best series in each category, and ten nominees for best film – resulting in the inclusion of some nominees other shows might not include such as “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” “Loki,” “Poker Face,” “Shrinking,” “Godzilla Minus One” and “Bottoms”.
