By It comes as little surprise that 2019’s “Charlie’s Angels” reboot had some serious issues even before launch.
Whereas the original McG-directed films were bright, colourful, sexy and full of fun and energy, the marketing for the Elizabeth Banks-directed films wasn’t either as glamorous nor as clear in its intent.
The result was a film that opened to mixed reviews and a poor opening weekend box office. Ultimately it was a flop, grossing $73.3 million with the little bit of praise for it centered on the performances of its actresses.
Now one of those cast members, Kristen Stewart, has revealed she wasn’t a fan of making the film. Participating in a game for a recent Variety cover story (via Indiewire), Stewart was quoted lines from her films which she had to guess.
One line, “Did you know that it takes men an additional seven seconds to perceive a woman as a threat compared to a man?,” came from the opening of “Charlie’s Angels” to which she responds:
“This was a mouthful at the time. I remember saying that. That was from a little film called ‘Charlie’s Angels.’ We wanted a strong opener, you know? We wanted to really like broadcast what the movie was about. It was a good idea at the time… I hated making that movie. I don’t know what else to say to you. Honestly, the three … you can’t touch [that]. Cameron [Diaz], Lucy [Lawless] and Drew [Barrymore] … I love that movie. I love that movie! If that says anything.”
The comments follow on from Banks being more candid about the frustrations she faced behind-the-scenes on the film, especially with the muddled marketing.
As part of the same cover story, Stewart also revealed she may put off doing any other acting gigs in the near future until she gets the funding to make her directorial debut “The Chronology Of Water” which has been stuck in development for five years:
“I’m going to make this movie before I ever work for someone else. Yeah, I will quit the f—— business. I won’t make a f—– ‘nother movie until I make this movie. I will tell you that, for sure. I think that will get things going.”
The film is based on Lidia Yuknavitch‘s 2011 memoir and is dubbed a non-linear autobiography as the author, a competitive swimmer, tries to deal with her personal and sexual traumas and alcohol abuse.
