The announcements for the second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us” keep coming as Isabel Merced has scored the key role of Dina in the new season which begins production next month in Vancouver.
Merced stars in “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” “Instant Family,” “Transformers: The Last Knight,” “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” and the upcoming “Madame Web”.
Her character Dina is seen throughout “The Last of Us Part II” game and lives on the Jackson settlement alongside Ellie at the beginning. She’s Ellie’s romantic partner across the title.
Shannon Woodward portrayed the character in the game. Series co-creators, writers, executive producers and directors Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann say in a statement:
“Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable. You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t be prouder to have her join our family.”
The casting follows the news of the hiring of Young Mazino as Jesse, and Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. Other key roles like Lev, Yara and Manny have yet to be announced.
All join returnees Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Pedro Pascal as Joel and Gabriel Luna as Tommy in the HBO and Sony Pictures Television co-production.
