Emmy-nominated “Beef” breakout actor Young Mazino has scored a supporting role in the second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us” which begins production next month in Vancouver.
Mazino will play Jesse, described as “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at terrible cost”.
Jesse appears early on in the story and is Dina’s ex-boyfriend. Stephen Chang portrayed the character in “The Last of Us Part II” game.
Series co-creators, writers, executive producers and directors Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann say in a statement:
“Young is one of those rare actors who is immediately undeniable the moment you see him. We’re so lucky to have him, and we can’t wait for the audience to see Young shine in our show.”
The casting follows the news yesterday of the hiring of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, the biggest new role of the series. Other key roles like Dina, Lev, Yara and Manny have yet to be announced.
All join returnees Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Pedro Pascal as Joel and Gabriel Luna as Tommy. The HBO and Sony Pictures Television co-production
