Sony held a presentation at CES today where it spoke about its recent video game to television adaptations from the acclaimed “The Last of Us” on HBO to the fun “Twisted Metal” at Peacock and the recent “Gran Turismo” movie.
Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studio, touted the numbers of the shows from “The Last of Us” having the second most watched HBO series premiere in 13 years, to “Twisted Metal” being one of the top five original series launched on Peacock to date. Both shows have already been renewed for second seasons.
Pape also confirmed that writing is currently underway on both the “God of War” TV series at Amazon Prime Video and the “Horizon Zero Dawn” TV series at Netflix with both shows making progress towards production.
Rafe Judkins (“The Wheel of Time”) will serve as showrunner on “God of War,” whilst Oscar nominees Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (“Children of Men,” “The Expanse”) are writing and executive producing the show which is expected to follow the storyline of the Norse mythology-era of the franchise which began in 2018.
“The Umbrella Academy” creator Steve Blackman is handling the “Horizon” adaptation which follows Aloy, a young outcast who sets out to unravel the mysteries behind her robot dinosaur-filled, post-apocalyptic world.
PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash previously indicated both shows will get the “same care and formula that we did with The Last of Us”.
