Filmmaker Martin Scorsese says he plans to film his movie about Jesus Christ this year.
According to The Los Angeles Times, Scorsese has already finished the screenplay for the movie which he is co-writing with critic Kent Jones.
The film will be based on the 1973 novel “A Life of Jesus” from “Silence” author Shūsaku Endō. Scorsese indicates he’ll also have a role in the movie.
Scorsese plans for the movie to run around 80 minutes and largely be set in the present day as it focuses on “Jesus’ core teachings in a way that explores the principles but doesn’t proselytize.”
He says: “I’m trying to find a new way to make it more accessible and take away the negative onus of what has been associated with organized religion.”
Previously he indicated the film wouldn’t have a straight narrative or be a documentary but a “combination of things”.
