After strike-induced delays, filming on the fifth and final season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” has gotten underway today in Atlanta.
Reports on social media from Atlanta-based outlets like Atlanta Filming say that Joe Keery who plays Steve, Natalia Dyer who plays Nancy, Maya Hawke who plays Robin and Charlie Heaton who plays Jonathan were all on hand for a scene shot at the studio base.
They will join fellow returnees in the final run like Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Jamie Campbell Bower, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo and Priah Ferguson along with new to the series cinema legend Linda Hamilton.
Previously, showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer say the final season will be a world away from the first in terms of scale. The main cast will all be around Hawkins this year, as opposed to last season which split everyone up in various locales.
The new season was originally slated for a June 2023 filming start but the strikes delayed the project seven months – as such what might have been able to make a late 2024 airing is now not premiering until sometime well into 2025.
Filmmaker Shawn Levy is expected to return to direct at least one episode of the season.
