Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola indicates that his self-financed dream project epic “Megalopolis,” which wrapped filming ten months ago, is coming sooner than you may think.
Speaking on the Accutron podcast via IndieWire, the “Apocalypse Now” helmer confirms that not only is it coming in 2024, but it may not be held back for awards consideration saying “it’s only going to be a few months and it’ll be out.”
What’s not clear is how the self-budgeted film will be distributed at present, which is partly why there is no marketing or publicity materials from the film at this time.
Asked if he could offer any further information, he says: “All I can say is I love the actors in it. It’s unusual, and it’s never boring. Other than that, wait and see.”
In the film, the fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this story of a New York woman who is divided between loyalties to her father and his classical view of society, and her lover who is more progressive and ready for the future.
