Actress Amber Heard has taken to Instagram to thank fans for coming out to support the DC Comics adaptation “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” which launched just before Christmas.
The post reads: “After all this time, Aquaman 2 made its splash (sorry, it’s too easy) Thank you to all of my fans for the overwhelming support and love in Mera’s AQ return. Thank you so much #aquaman”
Whilst actors Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson, and director James Wan did plenty of press for the superhero film sequel, Heard and co-stars like Nicole Kidman and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II have kept their involvement minimal.
Heard’s posting is particularly notable as her work in the film became a key point in the 2022 defamation trial involving her and Johnny Depp, Heard claiming in court Warners “didn’t want to include me” in the film and saying her role was “pared down”.
The film has hit the rocks at the domestic box office, taking in just $81 million and counting in North America since launching December 20th – however it is faring notably better overseas. Even so, the costly film is being seen as just the latest in a string of disappointing DC Comics adaptations released last year.
The film also marks the final DC movie release prior to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooting of the brand as an interconnected universe starting with the “Superman: Legacy” film opening July 2025.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is playing in theaters now around the world.
