Just ahead of production getting underway, Jack Black is set to join the cast of the “Minecraft” movie at Warner Bros. Pictures, Vertigo and Legendary.
Deadline broke the casting news, saying Black is playing the role of ‘Steve’ in the film which stars “Aquaman” himself Jason Momoa in the lead role.
Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen co-star in the film. Story details are under wraps, as are the film’s writing credits so it’s not quite clear who is writing it.
The film adapts the mega-selling Mojang video game which has sold 300 million copies to date and boasts 140 million monthly active players.
Producers include Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui and the late Jill Messick.
The news comes of Black’s role as villainous Bowser in last year’s “The Super Mario Bros Movie” which ended up being the second highest-grossing movie of 2023 and taking in $1.36 billion worldwide.
