Just one day after Disney‘s 1928 short Steamboat Willie entered the public domain, the first trailer has arrived for the indie horror comedy feature “Mickey’s Mouse Trap” from Into Frame Productions.
The film follows Alex who is stuck doing a late shift at the amusement arcade on her 21st birthday. Her friends decide to surprise her.
At the same time a killer, dressed in a mask resembling the Steamboat Willie incarnation of Mickey Mouse, decides to play a game of his own with them, which she must survive.
Jamie Bailey directs the film and says in a statement to THR: “We just wanted to have fun with it all. I mean it’s Steamboat Willie‘s Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it and I think it shows.”
Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk, Allegra Nocita, Ben Harris, Damir Kovic, Mackenzie Mills, Nick Biskupek and Simon Phillips star in the film which Paul Whitney, Mark Popejoy, Alexander Gausman and Andrew Agopsowicz produce.
The producers reportedly do not have a release date set yet, but producers are said to be aiming for March. The film follows in the wake of “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” a 2022 horror film which popped up after A.A. Milne’s original Winnie the Pooh entered the public domain.
