Celebrated Australian director David Michod (“Animal Kingdom,” “The Rover”) has a stoner black comedy titled “Wizards!” on the way, but it looks like work on the A24 project is still ongoing.
Franz Rogowski, one of the film’s stars, tells IndieWire that the project is still being edited with Michod trying to find a version he’s happy with:
“As far as I know, they had a version, and now they are editing a new version. They’re still looking for the right tone.”
Rogowski and Pete Davidson co-star as two hapless and consistently stoned beach-bar operators who stumble across stolen loot that was better off untouched. Orlando Bloo, Naomi Scott and Sean Harris co-star.
In other auteur project delay news, Lux Artists have reportedly confirmed to World of Reel that “You Were Never Really Here” and “e Need to Talk About Kevin” director Lynne Ramsay’s next film “Polaris” has yet to begin shooting and won’t make a 2024 release.
The news ends months of confusion that began back in August when a report in Variety indicated the celebrated Scottish director had already completed filming on the project which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara.
Set in the 1890s, Phoenix reportedly plays an ice photographer who meets the devil in Alaska. Ramsay remains linked to a number of projects, including an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s “Stone Mattress” set aboard an Arctic cruise, the Jennifer Lawrence-led marriage breakdown drama “Die, My Love,” and a long-gestating new take on “Moby Dick”.
