Marking one of the few shows to still have new episodes on the air during the strike, NBC’s “Quantum Leap” revival has managed to stay on air over the Fall.
The series famously never shut down after the first season wrapped production; the network was aware of imminent industrial action and so banked up as many episodes of its thirteen-episode second season as it could.
They managed to get eight completed before the shut down, with the eighth having aired two weeks ago. That mid-season finale sees Peter Gadiot teasing a large file as a potential “way to bring Ben home”.
Nanrisa Lee, who portrays the security expert Jenn Chu in the show, tells TV Line that the contents of the file are a “huge revelation” for the characters:
“I think when you have that kind of information, we’re going to see what’s at the end of that. Nobody’s going to shelve that. This is the point of what we’ve all been trying to do since Ben left; we’re just trying to get [him] home. We’ll see if it works.”
Should it work out, it potentially opens the door for the return to the present of not only Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee), but also Dr. Sam Beckett from the original series who has been lost somewhere in time.
Meanwhile, the remainder of the series will likely deal with the mystery of Eliza Taylor’s physicist, Hannah, whom Ben keeps encountering. Whilst it has been theorised that its their love for each other that’s causing the reunions, Lee says that’s not the only reason:
“Hannah is there for a purpose. There’s a reason why this keeps happening. They have developed a love for each other and that is a certain aspect of it, but in the larger perspective, I think it’s bigger than that and we’ll see what happens.”
Production resumed on the remaining five episodes of the season just after Thanksgiving so the series should be back on the air in the Spring at some point.
