The official runtime for “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation” writer/director Alex Garland’s new film “Civil War” has been confirmed as being just 109 minutes by distributor A24.
The confirmation comes from Variety and follows in the wake of previous rumors that claimed the film’s runtime was clocking in long – one suggesting as high as 195 minutes (3 hours 15 minutes). Instead, it’s a fairly standard and even short one.
The story takes place in the United States in the not-so-distant future and has been dubbed a combination road movie, satirical war film and elevated shooter.
Things began when 19 states of the United States have seceded from the union and now are made of factions including the ‘Florida Alliance’ and the ‘Western Forces’ which sees California and Texas on the same side.
Kirsten Dunst as a warzone photographer whose family is making their way across a country gone mad. The cast also includes Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica T. Gibbs, and Jess Matney.
Gregory Goodman, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich will produce for A24 and DNA Films. The film is targeting an April 26th 2024 release and will be available in IMAX.
