FXX’s animated spy comedy “Archer” came to a close on Sunday with the super-sized finale “Archer: Into the Cold”.
It marks the end of fourteen seasons of hijinks with overconfident secret agent Sterling Archer and his dysfunctional colleagues. In all 145 episodes of the series were produced from 2009 to 2023.
In a new interview post-finale, executive producers Casey Willis and Matt Thompson and producer Pierre Cerrato spoke with Den of Geek about the end and were asked the obvious question – could the franchise ever come back?
Seems the team is taking a well-deserved break, but after that they’d all be up for some more:
Thompson: “We would love the opportunity to keep exploring these characters and their world. We are going to take a break for a while, but eventually, I am going to hit up FX with a folder full of movie ideas. The first one is going to be about Archer thinking he is Columbo (that just came to me!).”
Cerrato: “Emphatically yes!. The series has proven that its characters are the heart of the show and can work in just about any setting. I have yet to see a more charming parrot than Crackers.”
Willis: “I think the ending of Archer: Into the Cold is very special and satisfying. If the opportunity arises in the future to do something great with Archer and the gang, I would jump at it!”
The animated, half-hour comedy featured the voices of H. Jon Benjamin as Sterling Archer; Aisha Tyler as Lana Kane; Judy Greer as Cheryl Tunt; Chris Parnell as Cyril Figgis; Amber Nash as Pam Poovey; Adam Reed as Ray Gillette and Lucky Yates as Krieger. The final season introduced Natalie Dew as super-agent Zara Khan, whilst earlier seasons also starred Jessica Walter as Malory Archer.
