One of the biggest question marks in terms of films next year is Francis Ford Coppola’s $100 million budget epic “Megalopolis” which wrapped back in March ahead of a 2024 release.
In the film, the fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this story of a New York woman who is divided between loyalties to her father and his classical view of society, and her lover who is more progressive and ready for the future.
“The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now” helmer Coppola wrote the script and financed the film himself. Despite one brief flurry of negative reports about the production’s staff turnover, the shoot seems to have gone relatively smoothly.
Adam Driver leads the cast and whilst out promoting Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” this week, he shared with Collider that he had nothing but praise for Coppola and his film:
“Because he financed it himself, it made the shooting process one of the best experiences, if not the best shooting experience, I’ve ever had. There was no excess conversation, there were no people robbing from Peter to pay Paul.
It felt like he was in control of the movie that he wanted to make and that was it. It felt like, ‘Oh, this is how movies should be.’ And he is the most generous, philosophical person that I know.
I loved that process and making it with him. I love talking to him. The movie is wild. It’s so imaginative and big and epic, and it’s bold. It takes a risk, and I couldn’t be more excited by it.”
Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, DB Sweeney, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Bailey Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, James Remar, and Giancarlo Esposito also star in the film which has yet to release any trailers or photos.
