The first three episodes of the second season of “Reacher” debuted on December 15th on Amazon and has quickly turned into a massive hit for the streamer.
The Alan Ritchson-led show’s first season was released all at once and was one of the streamer’s biggest hits to date with 1.84 billion minutes viewed across all eight episodes in the U.S. during its premiere weekend in March 2022 according to Nielsen.
Now, according to Deadline, the first three episodes released on Friday have surpassed the entire first season audience by 50% in the first three days on the streamer.
They add that “Reacher” is now the No. 1 title of the year for Prime Video in terms of total viewers across all series and films globally.
It also had the biggest premiere weekend that the streamer has had for any series since “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” in September.
The remainder of the season is set to roll out weekly through January 19th. Nielsen figures for the second season should become available in about a month.
The film has a perfect 100% critics score and an 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes with most of the audience complaints being about the switch from the binge to the weekly model.
Amazon knows it has a major hit on its hands as production on the third season is currently underway.
