A new report over at Bloomberg has gone into Netflix entering its “franchise era” with spin-offs, sequels, and prequels in the works for its most popular projects.
That includes period gangster drama “Peaky Blinders” which reportedly has two series follow-ups in development. One will be a sequel to the original occurring in 20th century Boston decades after the main show’s end.
The other will center on Polly Gray (played by the late Helen McCrory in the original), the matriarch of the criminal Shelby clan.
A “Wednesday” spin-off potentially centering on Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester is also being considered with plans to “establish a pipeline of Addams Family programs”.
A potential TV show set in the world of the action-movie franchise “Extraction” is also said to be under consideration.
The chatter comes as Netflix has spun off its popular “Stranger Things” into a stage play, which was recently revealed to be the first of a planned trilogy of stage plays set in that universe.
