The first trailer for Universal Pictures and Dreamworks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” launched on Wednesday so some massive numbers.
The animated comedy reportedly racked up more than 142 million views across channels in its launch and topped YouTube’s trending page on launch day.
Its numbers are close to the 157 million views for the teaser trailer for “Inside Out 2,” which was the biggest animated trailer launch in Disney history.
TikTok was reportedly a major contributor to the success of the trailer debut that, according to the studio, outperformed Universal’s other animated titles like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “Minions 2” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish”.
In the new film, Po (Jack Black) looks set to retire as Dragon Warrior in favor of becoming a spiritual leader and must train a cunning fox named Zhen (Awkwafina) to be his successor.
Ke Huy Quan and Viola Davis join the cast alongside returnees Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, Bryan Cranston and Ian McShane. The film will debut March 8th.
The news comes as Jack Black revealed earlier today that it has been “radio silence” from Universal Pictures in regards to a “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” sequel thus far. Black’s song for the film “Peaches” was recently confirmed to potentially qualify for an Oscar nomination.
