Another day, another sudden and unexpected death from Hollywood. Andre Braugher who is best known for his roles Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Homicide: Life on the Street died on Monday after a brief illness. There sure seems to be a lot of “brief illnesses” going around these days. Weird.
Anyway, Braugher was well known for several roles throughout his illustrious career including stints in The Wire, BoJack Horseman, City Of Angels, and The Mist. With his deep baritone voice, he was perfectly cast for playing Darkseid in Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.
However, it was his role as Captain Raymond Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine from 2013 until 2021, that he’ll be fondly remembered for by fans. Terry Crews, who played Terry Jeffords in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as well as Michelle Obama in Idiocracy, paid tribute to Braugher’s “irreplaceable talent”.
“I’m honoured to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you, and shared eight glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent.
This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship.
You showed me what a life well lived looks like.
Andre was nominated for 11 Emmy Awards – including four for his role as Captain Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He won an Emmy for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor in a Mini-Series and a Golden Globe Award nomination for his starring role in the miniseriesThief. He also won various awards from Television Critics Association Awards, NAACCP Image Awards, Critics Choice Awards, to name but a few.
Andre Braugher was a talent for sure, and Heaven has gained a true gentleman. Say hi to Lance Reddick for us Andre.
