By Post-credits stingers are often a mixed bag – some are real game changers, some go absolutely nowhere and some are just perfunctory.
One of the more unusual ones this year has been revealed to be one of the useless ones as well according to newfound DC Studios boss James Gunn. It’s especially interesting considering it features two key characters from his own “Peacemaker” series.
The mid-credits stinger of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” sees Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and John Economos (Steve Agee) from the Max show trying to recruit Billy Batson to the Justice Society of America.
It serves as something of a companion to the closing moments of Black Adam in which Harcourt and Economos are seen looking over an underwater prison for villains. Now Gunn, responding to a fan on Threads, spoke about the scene saying:
“It wasn’t my call and I didn’t write it – although it came out when I had just started at DC, its inclusion far predates me as (as does Harcourt as the warden of an underwater prison!), and, although I thought it was fun, I have no idea why those characters would be recruiting for the JS.”
Gunn’s new DC Universe begins with the animated “Creature Commandos” and his own “Superman: Legacy” film, even as a second season of “Peacemaker” is expected to be on the way at a later date. The series hasn’t set a launch date yet, whilst “Superman: Legacy” opens on July 11th 2025.
