David Tennant’s third and final 60th Anniversary “Doctor Who” special is out and now the torch has been passed on to Ncuti Gatwa to take over as the Fifteenth Doctor.
Timed with this, the first trailer is now out for this year’s “Doctor Who” Christmas special episode – a prelude to the new episodic run of the show and the first full adventure involving Gatwa’s Doctor and his new companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson).
Titled “The Church on Ruby Road,” the new special shows a Doctor seemingly far less haunted and much happier than Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor – one able to party on a dance floor, leap off a roof and deal with goblins in a flying ship.
The synopsis indicates Ruby was abandoned on Christmas Eve as a baby. But her world is about to be turned around, when she encounters the Doctor – and they set off on their first adventure together.
The BBC has officially confirmed that the episode will air on Christmas Day at 5.55pm on BBC One. The episode will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
Showrunner Russell T Davies has recently already been at work on Gatwa’s second full season with the Christmas Day 2024 special having recently been in production.
