Apple Original Films has won a major bidding war for “Fast Five” director Justin Lin’s new heist thriller “Two for the Money” starring Charlize Theron and Daniel Craig.
“Fast X” co-writer Dan Mazeau is penning the script for the project which is still in early development. Lin, Theron, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Joe Roth will produce.
Specifics of the plot are under wraps, but the film is said to follow the evolution of a relationship between two career thieves played by the two stars. The film will chart them across the course of three big jobs, with the pair said to have a ‘snappy rapport’.
Lin and Mazeau reportedly came up with the idea for the project during their time prepping the tenth installment of the “Fast and Furious” franchise before pitching to Theron who was part of that cast.
Theron suggested that Craig be her co-star. Lin of course famously exited “Fast X” and after that film’s release, the team refocused on the heist thriller.
It joins Apple’s high-profile film slate which has been filling out this year with the likes of Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” and Matthew Vaughn’s “Argylle” which recently landed a PG-13 rating.
