By Though HBO’s “House of the Dragon” is still months away from airing its second season, it seems work is already getting underway on not one but two more seasons.
“Game of Thrones” author/creator and series executive producer George R.R. Martin posted details on his blog about a recent UK trip he did which included watching the rough cuts of the first two episodes of the show’s second season – episodes he describes as “Dark, mind you. Very dark”.
Martin also revealed that during his trip he, showrunner Ryan Condal and his writing staff “spent two days locked in a room” to talk about the third and fourth seasons of the series and lay out early plans for them.
The series has not been renewed for a third and fourth season at this time, but Martin had previously suggested the series would need to go that far at least to fully tell the story. The author explains:
“They were lively, fun discussions, and we got some good work done… though two days was not nearly enough. There is so much ground to cover that I am not sure 20 days would have been enough.”
Martin previously indicated it would take “four full seasons of 10 episodes each to do justice to the Dance of the Dragons”. The second season will kick off with the Targaryen civil war and sees returnees such as Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans.
HBO premieres the second season of “House of the Dragon” in Summer 2024.
