Both the National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics Circle have named Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” as their Best Film of 2023.
The National Board of Review fell hard for the film, also awarding Scorsese best director, Lily Gladstone best actress and the film best cinematography (jointly won with “Barbie”).
The group was also big on Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers” which won best script, best actor (Paul Giamatti) and best supporting actress (Da’Vine Joy Randolph). “Poor Things” took best supporting actor (Mark Ruffalo) and best adapted screenplay.
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” won Best Animated Feature, “Anatomy of a Fall” won Best International Film, “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie” won best ensemble.
Along with ‘Killers’, its other Top 10 films for the year were “Barbie,” “The Boy and the Heron,” “Ferrari,” “The Holdovers,” “The Iron Claw,” “Maestro,” “Oppenheimer,” “Past Lives,” and “Poor Things”.
Interestingly only one NBR Best Film picture since 2010 has also won the Oscar for Best Picture – “Green Book” in 2019.
