In recent years filmmaker Eli Roth has gone more mainstream with works like “The House with a Clock in Its Walls,” the animated kids series “Fright Krewe” and the upcoming film adaptation of the “Borderlands” game series.
However, he returned to his horror roots this year with “Thanksgiving,” the holiday-themed slasher based on his faux “Grindhouse” trailer from way back in 2007. The film proved a surprise success with a sequel already in development.
Roth made his name in the early 2000s on gory horror films with the likes of “Cabin Fever” and the two “Hostel” movies. In a recent interview with CinePOP, Roth teased a return to not just more works in the horror genre, but those specific franchises as well.
He tells the outlet he’s aware of the love for those films and says he’s been something of a neglectful father toward them:
“‘Hostel’ – there’s a lot more to do. I’d love to go back to ‘Hostel’ at some point. And ‘Cabin Fever’ as well. They’re a part of me, like my children, and I feel like I’ve been ignoring them for too long. I’d love to go back to them, in some way. I have ideas. I would direct it. I don’t want them in anyone else’s hands.”
Roth’s films are famous for their high levels of ickiness and dark humor, the “Hostel” films, in particular, have come under fire for it. Both “Cabin Fever” and the “Hostel” films are available digitally.
