Netflix has renewed its controversial reality competition show spin-off “Squid Game: The Challenge” for a second season.
The renewal order comes as the first season’s finale has begun streaming and the winner of the $4.56 million prize will be revealed.
The series commenced on the service on November 22nd and has consistently stayed on top of Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list for its first weeks.
The title has also made the Top 10 in 93 countries. Brandon Riegg, Netflix vp of nonfiction series says in a statement:
“There was no red light in our decision to greenlight season two of Squid Game: The Challenge, the most ambitious unscripted show we’ve premiered at Netflix. We’re so excited to continue the franchise of Squid Game with our team in Korea, and producers at Studio Lambert and The Garden for this epic competition series.”
The new season is expected to be partly inspired by the games we’ll see in the upcoming second season of the main “Squid Game” scripted drama series expected to air in 2024.
Even so, an open casting call for “Squid Game: The Challenge” second season is already up at SquidGameCasting.com.
