An action comedy titled “Calamity Hustle” that will star Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum as wayward brothers is the subject of a major bidding war.
Warner Bros. Pictures, Netflix and Amazon are all in the running to potentially acquire the project which hails from filmmakers Aaron and Adam Nee who worked with Tatum on 2022’s “The Lost City”.
The story would follow a down-on-his-luck former Los Angeles detective-turned-private investigator who, after being shaken down by a vicious crime lord, must track down his estranged brother who is responsible for interfering with a diamond heist.
The Nee brothers are writing the script and are directing whilst Reynolds and Tatum would both star and produce via their respective Maximum Effort and Free Association companies.
Kevin Walsh would also produce. Warners is reportedly offering $40 million and both streamers up to $50 million to secure Reynolds and Tatum for the project. The Nees meanwhle could score $6-8 million for themselves.
One offer for the whole package (including above the line costs) on Friday came in at a total of $175 million. The script is reportedly still in need of further development.
