Following the trailer premiere yesterday for George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” actor Chris Hemsworth has spoken some more about his villainous character of Warlord Dementus in the ‘Fury Road’ prequel.
As we know, the film takes place 45 years after the societal collapse and around 15 years before the events of ‘Fury Road’. A young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by Dementus.
The film will deal with the Horde coming across the Citadel presided over by Immortan Joe with the two tyrants engaging in a war for dominance and Furiosa caught in the middle as she tries to survive.
Hemsworth, who sports a fake nose and bushy beard along with an intriguing outfit for the movie, describes his character to Collider thus:
“He’s a very violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the Wasteland, which is the world where the Mad Max saga takes place. He’s a product of his environment.
There’s an intensity to him, there’s a brutality. He’s been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed, and he’s learned to rule with an iron fist.
There’s a charisma to him. It’s a very manipulative charisma. This is something we talked about a lot in this film. In order to have people follow this character, there needed to be something for them to latch onto.
He has the answers as far as, ‘Here’s the reason for your problems, here’s the individual you need to blame, follow me and I will lead you onto higher ground.’ It was a lot of fun to play with, it’s something very different that I hadn’t experienced before.”
Alyla Browne and Tom Burke co-star in the film which Miller co-wrote with Nico Lathouris. “Furiosa” releases in cinemas on May 24th.
