The Netflix series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” graphic novels is back in production in the UK on its second season.
Filming on the new run was underway for several weeks at Shepperton Studios in the UK before the SAG-AFTRA strike shut down production in July.
Gaiman released a letter Wednesday announcing the re-start and sharing a behind-the-scenes photo from the set featuring Tom Sturridge back as Dream/Morpheus and Mason Alexander Park as Desire.
The restart is timed with the 35th anniversary of the comic’s launch. Gaiman writes in the letter posted on Netflix.com:
“This week we officially restart production on the next sequence of stories of The Sandman for Netflix. Genius show runner Allan Heinberg and the countless people in front of and behind the camera are building something endlessly special, and bringing these stories to life in a way that would once have been unimaginable.
A journey is beginning that will take us from Destiny’s garden to Hell, from the Heart of the Dreaming to Ancient Greece and revolutionary France, and from there to places even I cannot quite imagine on the screen. I will be patient. Good things are coming.”
Barry Sloane is rumored to be joining the cast as Destruction for the new run, one the other seven Endless which also includes Kirby Baptiste as Death and Donna Preston as Despair.
No official release window is currently slated for the new run of “The Sandman”.
