Amazon Prime Video is developing a second live-action “The Boys” spin-off titled “The Boys: Mexico” and it already has some major names attached.
The project will reportedly serve as a potential reunion of “Y Tu Mama Tambien” co-stars Diego Luna (“Andor”) and Gael García Bernal (“Werewolf by Night”) who are making deals to executive produce and are said to be considering taking on supporting roles.
“Blue Beetle” writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is spearheading the spin-off as creator, writer and executive producer with a search currently underway for a co-showrunner to join him. Work is already underway on the script.
The Spanish-language series will be shot in Mexico and set in Mexico City with budgets currently being worked out. No casting has begun as yet.
Mothership series producers Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Neil H. Moritz, Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are also onboard.
The news follows in the wake of the first live-action spin-off “Gen V” launching on Amazon Prime to not only major critical acclaim but big numbers as well. That series has been renewed for a second season.
An animated anthology spin-off titled “The Boys Presents: Diabolical” was already released earlier this year.
Meanwhile, a fourth season of the main “The Boys” series has already been filmed and will return to screens next year.
