Focus Features has announced a December 25th 2024 release date for “The Lighthouse,” “The Northman,” and “The Witch” director Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” remake.
Bill Skarsgard, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicolas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson and Simon McBurney star in the film, which shot at Barrandov Studio in Prague earlier this year in what was said to be a “complex and unconventional shoot”.
Whilst F.W. Murnau’s legendary original 1922 feature was shot in black-and-white with a German Expressionism cinematic style, this is being done in color and will reportedly boast an artistic style more akin to 19th century Romanticism.
The story is dubbed a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.
Peter Kujawski, Chairman of Focus Features, said in a statement: “The audacious filmmaking of Robert Eggers is always a gift for fans, and we can promise that his Nosferatu is planning quite the Christmas feast.”
The release date suggests a potential Fall film festival run to promote buzz on the title. It also suggests Universal’s Jordan Peele-directed horror film, set for the same date, will likely be moved.
