Former “Doctor Who” and current “House of the Dragon” actor Matt Smith has signed on to star in and executive produce a six-part series adaptation of Nick Cave’s darkly comic novel “The Death of Bunny Munro”.
Pete Jackson (“Somewhere Boy”) will write and Isabella Eklöf (“Industry”) will direct the project for Clerkenwell Films (“Misfits”) and Sky Studios.
Smith will play Bunny Munro – a sex addict, door-to-door beauty product salesman and self-professed lothario whose life is derailed by his wife Libby’s suicide.
Together with nine-year-old son Bunny Junior, he embarks on an increasingly out-of-control road trip across Southern England as the two struggle to handle their grief.
Bunny tries to seduce any woman he meets, and Bunny Jr. talks to the ghost of his mother as he slowly realizes his father is a mess. Eklöf and Cave will executive produce the series. Matthew Mulot will also produce.
Sky Atlantic and NOW will have the show in the UK with NBCUniversal Global Distribution doing international sales. Shooting begins next Spring.
