Howdy Outposters, I have some xenomorph titbits about the upcoming Alien Romulus and the FX series coming to your eyeballs in 2024.
Olyphant Olyin
In an exclusive to Deadline, Timothy Olyphant is set to join the FX series which is currently referred to as “that Alien series on FX”. The powers that be are keeping relatively quiet about the full extent of his character but Deadline says he plays someone called Kirsh.
He is a synth who acts as a mentor and trainer for Sydney Chandler’s Wendy who is a hybrid, a meta-human with the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult. She sounds like a politician’s wet dream – or would they prefer it be the other way around? Moving on.
Olyphant joins the growing cast that also includes Alex Lawther as the male lead, a soldier named CJ. Samuel Blenkin is onboard as Boy Kavalier, a CEO. Also included are Essie Davis as Dame Silvia, Adarsh Gourav as Slightly, and Kit Young as Tootles. So we have characters called Boy, Slightly and Tootles – sounds like a Teletubbies 2.0.
That Alien series on FX is executive produced by Ridley Scott and set in a time period before Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and is the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.
I’m a face hugger for the Alien franchise (except Alien Resurrection) so I’m looking forward to this. Whether it’ll be any good though is anyone’s guess.
Alien: Romulus
Cailee Spaeny who is the star of the ninth entry of the Alien movie franchise (if you include the vs Predator ones) recently gave an update on the Alien: Romulus. Cailee confirmed a rumor regarding its place within the timeline of the franchise.
“It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie. They brought the same team from Aliens, the James Cameron film. The same people who built those xenomorphs actually came on and built ours. So getting to see the original design with the original people who have been working on these films for 45-plus years and has been so much of their life has been really incredible.”
Surely the dudes who worked on Aliens in 1986 have to be at least in their late 60s by now. Is bringing them back a testament to their skills and knowledge or a sadder fact that these are the only people able to recreate the magic of the first two because everything else went to CGI shit not long after?
Either way, I’m just being a miserable old git because I love the idea they are going full practical effects again, even if it does mean wheeling out some old codgers to do it!
Alien: Romulus is set to hit theaters on Aug. 16, 2024.
