Screenwriter Eric Roth has one hell of a resume over the years – “Forrest Gump,” “The Insider,” “Ali,” “Munich,” “The Postman,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “The Good Shepherd” and more.
More recently he’s been teaming with celebrated directors – the one and only Martin Scorsese on “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and with Denis Villeneuve on his two “Dune” movies.
Popping up on the A Script Apart podcast recently, he revealed during the episode (via World of Reel) that he has written a screenplay for Villeneuve in secret
Asked what it’s about, all Roth would say is “space and time”. Villeneuve will be out promoting “Dune: Part Two” shortly so we may get more answers then.
Speculation is already rife though that it’s Villeneuve’s long-gestating adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s “Rendezvous with Rama” – a project the filmmaker has been linked to for years.
The story is set in the 2130s and follows the investigation of a thirty-mile-long alien spaceship with mysterious origins that has been set adrift in our Solar System by an unknown intelligence.
We follow a group of human explorers who intercept the ship in an attempt to unlock its mysteries and make humanity’s first contact with an alien species.
Villeneuve is expected to do a gritty political thriller set in the court of Cleopatra as his next project.
