Emma Mackey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, Ayo Edebiri, Albert Brooks, Kumail Nanjiani and Spike Fearn are in negotiations to star in the next directorial effort of Oscar-winning writer/director James L. Brooks.
The project will mark Brooks’ seventh film and his first in the thirteen years since 2010’s “How Do You Know”. His prior five directorial efforts were “Terms of Endearment,” “Broadcast News,” “I’ll Do Anything,” “As Good At It Gets” and “Spanglish”.
The project has been set up at 20th Century Studios with the company’s President Steve Asbell saying in a statement Brooks remains one of the “most empathetic dramatists of our time” and the studio: “couldn’t be more proud to support him in his long awaited return to the director’s chair.”
The story will reportedly follow an idealistic young politician who juggles familial issues and a challenging work life while preparing to take over the job of her mentor, the state’s longtime incumbent governor.
Brooks will also produce alongside Julie Ansell, and Richard Sakai via their Gracie Films company.
Brooks has kept busy in the past decade-plus producer of films “The Edge of Seventeen” and “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” along with his ongoing commitments to “The Simpsons”.
