A new report from scooper John Campea suggests that former “Hannibal” star Mads Mikkelsen is being eyed for a role in Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Fantastic Four” movie – specifically that of Doctor Doom.
Campea says in his report that: “What [Campea’s source] confirmed to me is [Marvel] has talked to Mads Mikkelsen [about] Doom. Now, to be clear, I’m sure they talked to a dozen people. They did not tell me that Mads Mikkelsen has been cast as Doom. Not at all. But they were able to confirm to me that Mads Mikkelsen is one of the people they talked to for Doom.”
Mikkelsen has already played the lead villain of 2016’s “Doctor Strange” in the role of Kaecilius, though Marvel has cast the same actor in multiple roles before. Added to this, Doom is likely someone behind a mask for a good portion of the runtime so it will be less of an issue.
No confirmed casting has been announced yet and so far the only name that seems pretty certain for any role at this point is “The Last of Us” and “The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal for Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards.
Others including Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Javier Bardem have all been rumored for roles. Beyond ‘Strange’, Mikkelsen is coming off playing the villain in two major studio films – “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”.
“WandaVision” showrunner Matt Shakman is set to direct from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, who was brought in to re-write the script originally written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.
“Fantastic Four” is scheduled to be released on May 2nd 2025.
