“Game of Thrones,” “The Last of Us” and “The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal is officially in talks to play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming “Fantastic Four” reboot at Marvel Studios.
Scooper Daniel RPK initially reported the news a few hours ago saying Pascal was offered the role and was reportedly close to signing. Slashfilm followed that up with a report a few minutes ago saying he has already signed, and now Deadline has a report indicating that it’s still in the talks phase.
The trade says though the “deal is far from done,” multiple sources say “it’s headed in the right direction” for Pascal with his scheduling commitments currently being worked out.
Pascal has to resume filming on “Gladiator 2” in the coming weeks, and has commitments to shoot both “Barbarian” director Zach Cregger’s “Weapons” and the second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us”. The latter will film throughout all of next year.
It was reportedly essential to figure out who would be playing Richards, a scientist and inventor who’s known to be one of the smartest characters in all of Marvel Comics, first before the studio could go out with offers to cast other members of the team. Now they can.
The project is aiming to film early next year with director Matt Shakman currently in pre-production in Pinewood Studios in England.
The casting news ends months of speculation of who might play the role with the likes of John Krasinski, Adam Driver, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Matt Smith all mentioned.
