Sony Pictures and Alcon Entertainment will release the first trailer tomorrow for the new animated “Garfield” movie which is coming to cinemas on May 24th 2024. The film was previously slated for a mid-February release but was pushed back relatively recently
Continuing his trend of taking so many animated film lead voices, Chris Pratt voices Garfield here and is joined by Samuel L. Jackson who plays a brand-new character named Vic, Garfield’s father.
Also onboard are Nicholas Hoult (“The Great”), Ving Rhames (“Mission: Impossible”), Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”), Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”), Cecily Strong (“Schmigadoon”) and “Saturday Night Live” alum Bowen Yang.
It’s currently not clear which actors are playing key supporting characters like Garfield’s owner Jon, best friend Odie, and veterinarian Liz. A glimpse of the new Odie can be seen in the trailer tease clip below.
“The Emperor’s New Groove” director Mark Dindal and writer David Reynolds re-team in the same capacities here, while original creator Jim Davis serves as an executive producer
Animation is being provided by DNEG. Frank Welker, who has been voicing Garfield since 2007, was reportedly not contacted about appearing.
