Take-Two Interactive’s Rockstar Games reportedly plans to announce the highly anticipated next entry in the “Grand Theft Auto” game franchise in the next few days says Bloomberg.
The outlet claims to have spoken with people familiar with the company’s plans and indicate that the news could come “as early as this week.”
The company allegedly then plans to publish the first trailer for the game next month as part of Rockstar’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Rockstar hasn’t yet responded to the report, though Bloomberg clarifies a request for a response was sent after business hours.
The game is expected to be set in Vice City, the fictional version of Miami in the game world, and feature two protagonists – a man and a woman.
“Grand Theft Auto VI” is expected to be one of the most significant entertainment releases of the decade after the fifth entry was released a decade ago and has since sold more than 185 million copies.
Not only is “Grand Theft Auto V” the second best-selling video game of all time, it is also one of the most financially successful entertainment products of all time and has generated around $8 billion in revenue.
Last year, hackers released hours of early footage from the game with Rockstar blaming a ‘network intrusion’. Two UK teens were convicted of the hack in a UK criminal trial earlier this year.
Take-Two is scheduled to showcase its earnings report on Wednesday.
