Marvel Studios held its premiere of “The Marvels” last night and whilst the social media reaction so far has been quite positive, no actual reviews are up at this point so it’s not clear where critics will fall on the film.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige was on hand at the premiere where an interview with ET Online saw him essentially avoiding answering any questions about any of the upcoming entries in the Marvel universe beyond this week’s titles.
Asked about the X-Men appearing sometime soon, he only responded “perhaps, soon”.
In one case though he was more forthcoming after he was asked about the recent reports of ‘fallen Avengers’ like Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow returning for upcoming films.
He says: “We did not discuss that and that is the truth. We’re doing a project with Scarlett. I love Robert, he’s part of the family. But in terms of returning, we’ll have to see.”
He refers to a Johansson-produced top-secret Marvel in that answer, a film that is reportedly still happening but has hit pause due to the strikes.
In a separate interview with the same outlet, former Marvel Studios star Gwyneth Paltrow says there is one person who could convince her to unretire and potentially appear again in the MCU and that’s her co-star Downey Jr. from the “Iron Man” films.
One person not inclined to join the MCU at all however is “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White who tells GQ UK this week he did have a meeting about joining the films: “I had a meeting for a kind of Marvel-y movie, and I had an attitude. I think I played it all wrong. [I said] ’Tell me about why should I do your movie’. They were like, ‘F— you’ And I was like, ‘Right on.’”
“The Marvels” is slated to open in cinemas on Friday.
