Universal and Blumhouse’s horror hit “Five Nights at Freddy’s” has plummeted in its second weekend at what is looking to be one of the deadest weekends at the domestic box office to date.
In a weekend that was to have been dominated by Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi tentpole “Dune: Part Two” before being delayed by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the total of domestic ticket sales across all films for the weekend is expected to be just $57-58 million – the third worst of the year.
“Five Nights at Freddy’s” is on track to earn $17.8 million, an incredibly steep 78% drop from its stunning debut last weekend. Even with the fall off, the film has managed to surpass $100 million domestically.
“Taylor Swift: Eras Tour” concert film will come in second with a projected $11-12 million with the movie’s domestic gross now at $165 million. Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” will be third with $6.5 million in its third weekend and a domestic total of $52 million.
Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” is set to debut in fourth with a gross of around $5 million this weekend which is actually ahead of expectations. Mexican comedy-drama “Radical” will be fifth with $2.9 million.
Meg Ryan’s new film “What Happens Later” looks to debut in ninth with $1.5 million, whilst “The Marsh King’s Daughter” was such a disastrous launch it didn’t even crack the Top 10 – taking just $851,000 from over 1,000 screens.
