2017’s acclaimed “Logan” served as the finale for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine character with the mutant meeting his demise and Jackman seemingly leaving the role behind in a rather definitive ending.
Years later, the world was surprised when Jackman announced he would be returning to the role for “Deadpool 3” alongside Ryan Reynolds who is back as the Merc with a Mouth.
Understandably there’s been some concern about what impact the new film will have on “Logan” and whether the filmmakers will tarnish the legacy of that film.
“Logan” director James Mangold told fans a year ago to ‘chill’ and that “LOGAN will always be there” along with expressing a desire to see what the “Deadpool 3” team have cooked up.
Talking with BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast whilst promoting his new Netflix miniseries “All the Light We Cannot See” today, “Deadpool” 3 director Shawn Levy says he and the team have nothing but the ultimate respect for “Logan” and the events of it will be canon here:
“I have always said that I can’t wait for Deadpool 3 to come out because all I want to do is give interviews alongside Ryan where we talk about our reverence for the movie Logan.
Logan is canon. We love Logan. That happened. I want the world to know, as the producer and director, all of us share a deep love and respect for Logan, every aspect of how it’s crafted, and all the events that take place.”
The talk comes as a new rumor from MyTimeToShineHello has dropped a rumored synopsis for the film claiming it ties into the TVA from “Loki” who are recruiting for an anti-Kang army and are trying to get Wolverine onboard. That report is pure speculation for the moment.
Owen Wilson, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Jennifer Garner, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapičić, Rob Delaney, Matthew Macfadyen, and more star in “Deadpool 3” which is currently paused halfway through production.
Originally scheduled to hit theaters on May 3rd 2024, it is currently undated.
