Talks between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP continued on Sunday as they appear to be closing in on a potential new deal reports Deadline.
The trade indicates there’s a “feeling of optimism” with one studio source saying: “Looks like we’re in the final stretch”.
Both sides reportedly expressed confidence a deal may be reached within days, but the situation is still fluid and “there is still a list to work through” says another source so don’t pop the champagne just yet.
The sides have allegedly “gained ‘significant’ traction” in bridging the core issue of compensation for streaming projects, an issue that has seemingly been the biggest divide between them in recent weeks.
The move of three major films in the past week off the 2024 calendar is being seen as a sign the studios now falling under increased pressure to end the strike and restart global feature and TV production.
Negotiations are likely to continue this coming week as there’s a push to get the deal done in order to save what’s left of the 2023/24 TV season and the 2024 film calendar.
